Zac Kothrade - Jewelry artist
Location: Flagstaff, AZ
"A challenge I relish, during the design process and fabrication of any piece, is to create art that is simple, yet intriguing. I find it is more difficult to design a simple form that is distinct and interesting as opposed to one that is overly detailed and complex. I always keep in mind that I am designing a jewel to be worn, in contrast to free-standing sculpture. I strive to discover simple shapes and forms that are unique, fascinating, and look stunning when worn. Natural shape, pattern and texture are central to the inspiration for the aesthetic of my pieces. It is a pleasure to create art that is inspired by nature and clever design that pleases and compliments the wearer."
-Zac Kothrade
Zac works in Argentium Silver, which is purer than standard sterling (940 or 960 parts per 1000). It has increased tarnish resistance, a whiter color, and also is able to be hardened differently than sterling silver, making it more durable and scratch resistant. He uses 14K gold for his accents and select precious stones.
