I am fascinated by Phenomenon and Ponderous enigma. Each Image is a prayer. Sacred ceremony and dreams are a constant theme source. The influence of Surrealism is blended with Religious Beliefs and mysterious symbolic imagery of Primitive/Modern man. Come climb with me, the Kiva ladder, and walk the Skypath of the Sleeping Rainbow. Being-Spirit High with Respect for the Old Ways and Elders, I give thanks for the Gift. About the Artist
Born in the Atomic Age, Rick was inspired at an early age by machines, nature, and environments. His father was a landscape painter and technical engineer who taught him to draw and cultivate and eye for design. Early exposure to works by Dali, Picasso, and Klee fueled his imagination and he began to see the world more as a dreamscape. His spiritual life became an important source of energy and ideas. Pop Art, Dada, and Conceptualism brought these ideas into theatre and film. While traveling throughout the Southwest in 1989 he discovered the Hope Mesas and the Navaho Nation. The people and their art/mythology began an evolution in his art and awareness. He has since studied the ancient ruin sites and rock art extensively. Rick moved from Oakland, California to Jerome, Arizona in 1991 where he now resides. His home is also his studio. His work is about storytelling with color and light forms. Playful visionary seeking definition from the unknown. Rick's work is in such notable collections as Harlan Ellison and Mrs. Buddy Holly.
