Elegance In ClayA traditional art presented in a new style.
I was born in Pueblo, Colorado, but it was not long before I began to move across the United States and the world. My father was an officer in the United States Navy and we moved from port to port, sometimes as often as every six months. My father was dedicated to seeing that his children had the opportunity to experience all that the world had to offer, so we traveled often and saw many different sights. In my childhood my father was transferred to Rota, Spain, and it was this opportunity that opened my eyes to art and the architecture from around the world.
Throughout my adolescent years and into adulthood, I satisfied my need to create by writing short stories and poems. I had always had the dream of being able to draw or express myself in art.
It was not until I was in my late thirties and had decided to return to college that I found that ability. I had returned to school to major in education and was short a liberal arts class. I signed up for a pottery class and it was there that I found the medium that had eluded me for so long. My instructor claimed I was a reincarnated a potter.
I am not sure about this, but I do know that I am happy when I am working with the clay. With the degree I now possess in Elementary Education and the newfound love of pottery, I hope that I can work with children to help them find their art before they are 40 years old.
I currently reside in Lakeside, Arizona where myself and three other artists have opened the Working Artists Co-op and Gallery. I show my work in galleries in Scottsdale, Flagstaff, and Albuquerque and look forward to placing it in other states.
